Beale's team at Waipiro Bay (20S for seven wickets to 98), the Auckland touring team returned to Tokomaru Bay. Wairoa j telegraphed that continuous rain caused ■ the ground to be submerged and un- j playable, and cancelled the match and; the Waikaremoana trip. j The team left Tokomaru at 8 ajn. on j Friday, and arrived at Gisborne at 11.20. j It left at noon, and lunched at Morere | at 2.30. At Wairoa the local cricketers j expressed great disappointment that there could be no match. The team arrived at Napier after thirteen hours on a cold wet journey. On Sunday afternoon the team was taken for a drive to Havelock North and Hastings, during which the charabanc stuck in a watertable and was held up for a considerable time. On Monday the tourists commenced their last match against a Hawke's Bay team, which was only partially representative. The weather was cold and windy, but improved ia the afternoon. Saunders sent the local side in on a soft wicket. E. Elliott 21, D. Pirie 16, J. Bradburn 13 were the only ones able to make double figures against the Auckland bowlers and good fielding. They were all out for 73. For Auckland Weir made 72, and Monteith 41, and notwithstanding five leg-before decisions Auckland's total reached 227, giving them a lead of 154 on the first innings. Gifford four for 53 bowled best for the local team. Hawke's Bay lost two for 47 in the second innings (D. Pirie 30, C. Beuth 7). The match will be concluded to-day. The Hawke's Bay team, playing Beale's touring team from Auckland, carried their total to 190 for seven wickets by luncheon to-day, mainly owing to splendid batting by T. Reaney, a left-hand colt, producing 81, in which were a dozen fours. The game will be concluded this afternoon.
