WEIGHTS FOR WELLINGTON.

THE CUP AND TELEGRAPH. "i u ? weights have been issued by .Mr. II s oyle for the lirst day of the Weli'.i.jioii Racing Club's summer meeting, which will commence at Trentham next week, and when the acceptances a"e declared on Friday there should be some good fields left in. for practically all the best horses in the Dominion are engaged, and he has not been unduly hard on them. In the Wellington Cup. Rapine is given 10.2, and heads the handicap. He could not have been let off with much less after the decisive manner in which he won the Summer Cup. one mile and aquarter, with 10.:5. at the Auckland summer meeting, beating several of those who are entered for the big event at rreutlia.ni. Among them were Tanadees Ruapapa S.lO. Footfall B.S (who was third), Eden Hall 8.7, Mandane 5.4. and Oreum 8.2. In the A.R.C. Handicap, one mile and a-half, on the third day, he was awarded 10.9, but did not accept, but he is now- down "lb on th.it impost, and is meeting Count Cavour on 41b, and Te Monanui on olb better terms. However, only on one occasion has lOst or over been carried successfully in this race, and that was when Advance won with 10.4. In the Clifford Plate, Count i Cavour beat Rapine easily, but the going i was not in favour of the latter; on a . firm course it would have been different. With 10.2, Rapine is not out of it. Next l -times Count Cavour, who raced so well : at Auckland, and he has 9.13. He must lie given a good chance after his seconds |in the Auckland Cup with 9..3, and in the A.R.C. Handicap one mile and a-half, with 10.2. Oil the latter occasion he was giving Star Stranger Sib, Te Monanui Olb, Tanadees 141b, Mask and Footfall 241b, Ruapapa 261b, Mandane 301b, Star Ranger 321b, Clarinda and Desert Glow 341b, and Oreum 3.ilb. Now he has to concede Star Stranger and Te Monanui 101b, Tanadees 171b. Footfall (who beat him in the race) 211b, Mask 291b, Eden Hall (who did not start) 311b. Ruapapa 321b, Mandane 331b, Desert | Glow. Star Ranger, and Clarinda 371b, and Oreum 391b. Footfall is therefore the only one that has been brought closer to him, for he is 31b higher by comparison than in the A.R.C. Handicap. Star Stranger has not impressed since his return from Sydney, and he will find many in the race to keep him busy with 9.3. Te Monanui is a good horse, and on recent performances will be one of the prime fancies. In the Auckland Cup he finished third with. 9.1, and filled a similar position in the A.R.C. Handicap with 9.7. Now he- has been awarded 3.3., Tanadees won t6e Auckland Cap. with'B.o, and t»*s fourth in the Summer Cup, One mile and a-quarter, with 0.5. He failed to gain a place in the A.R.C. Handicap with 9.2, and is called upon in the Wellington Cup to carry 8.10. If his efforts at Ellerslie have not left him stale, he will have friends. Degage, who has been sore, has not shown iup this season, while Footfall annexed the A.R.C. Handicap with 8.6,; and has now been awarded a similar impost in the Wellington Cup. He is now meeting Count Cavour on 31b worse terms than in the A.R.C. Handicap, and Te Monanui on 41b worse terms. He only beat Count Cavour by thrietjuarters of a length, with Te Monanui a neck further back. Mask has not impressed since he won the King Edward Handicap at the Auckland spring meeting. Seatown ran well in the Derbv. I and annexed the Grandstand Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, on the concluding day, with 7.13. He is a distinct possibility with 7.11. The distance may be a bit too far for Civility. Merry Dav usually races well at Wellinnton, and in the spring annexed the Wellington! Handicap, one mile and three furlongs,! with i .12. Eden Hall's best performance ! over a mile and a-half was in the Mitchelson Cup when he finished second to! Star Ranger. He was then carrvinz S.o, and 71b less than that in the WeTlir._r-! ton C'up. Ruapapa won at Takapuna. but failed to show up at Ellerslie. Man- ; dane is good in dry going, and she is not overburdened with 7.5. Rapier has performed well recently, and his third in the Manawatu Cup, one mile and ahalf, shows he can go the distance. Hynanna has been showing good form over a mile and a-quarter, while Piutkair has a Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and a-half, to his credit. Desert Glow (7.4) was second in the New Zealand Cup, ran well for over a mile and a-half in the Auckland C'up, and finished fourtli in the A.R.C. Handicap with 7.10. With lib more he w-as third in the Grandstand | Handicap on the concluding dav. L'lai - . | mda disappointed at Ellerslie, while Oreum was noticed in her races at Ellerslie. though she did not get into the money. Fresco and Penman mav be the best of the others. To sum" up, Te Monanui. Count Cavour, Rapine. Seatown Footfall. Desert Glow, and Rapier mav j appeal just now. " | ngaruawahia racing club. ANNUAL MEETING. JANUARY 22.
