Cars not fitted with meters will be refused licenses, after that date. The Mayor (Mr. Ge'o. Baildon) said '- that about sixty meters were already in operation and other owners bad theirs on order. A number of in-: • stallations had been made during this week and he expected that a rush would - take place during the remaining days, as approximately 200 motor "cars were ehgaged in taxi work in the city. "The City Council has definitely; decided to-bring..the.by-hvw.into operation on. January 1, 1927," he remarked. A by-law dealing with taximeters was passed some" years- ago, but the use of meters has continued to be optional owing" to the" representations of taxi cab owners at various times. On June 24 last, the council -decided by resolution to .enforce the by-law at the beginning >f the New Year. Owners of licensed taxi cabs have been notified accordingly.
