COLOMBIA AGAIN ' SUFFERS. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE CAUSED. NEW YORK, December 21. Extensive damage is reported to have been caused by a severe earthquake in Colombia, South America. Cumbal and Carlosaina, two towns having each a population of a few thousands, are said to havg been destroyed. Mount Cumbal is believed to be in eruption. At Tulcan, a town in Ecuador, with a population of 4000, severe earthquakes were felt. The President and the Minister of State have left for Tulcan with medical supplies. Cumbal and Carolsama, which are reported to have been destroyed, are situated in the extreme south-west of Colombia, on the border of Ecuador. Tulcan is across the border. The whole western region of South America, where the land slopes sharply from the lofty Andes to the sea coast, is subject to earthquakes. Colombia is extremely mountainous, three ranges of the Andes, the Cordilleras, running from north to south. Between these ranges are longitudinal valleys drained by rivers flowing into the Caribbean Sea. An earthquake in February, 100G, caused great destruction and loss of life.
