BELMONT SCHOOL.
(To the Editor.) Sit, —The fact seems to have been lost sight of, that Belmont echool is a State school, provided to meet the needs of children from the surrounding district. The district ie mostly filled with working people -who cannot afford to send their children to college for their primary education, and yet a few wealthier parents of more distant suburbs are sending their children to Belmont school, and at the same time paying for private tuition for elocution, singing, dancing, etc. These are the children who take the leading part in all these functions, which are so much advertised in the name of Belmont school. All the children are requested to wear uniforms, which are similar to that worn by children attending well known Auckland colleges. Children belonging to parents who cannot afford to cope with the expense of extra uniforms for games, etc, are not allowed to participate in such, regardless of their ability. Mr. Brooke, in Ins letter, suggests that "Anxious Parent" should take his children away from the school if he is not satisfied. ■ That will not right a wrong. He also suggests that "Anxious Parent" should write under his own name. According to a statement in an advertising booklet issued from Belmont school:—"When the heart-of the home is in league with' the school, jt is well with the child." What will it be with "Anxious Parent's" children afterwards if he signs his name and theirs? Much has been said about the great accomplishment of winning the Anzac Banner twice in five years, but I have not read of any scholarships being won from Belmont school recently," and this is one of the things that count in education. " In conclusion, I can only assure "Satisfied Parent" that there are many "Anxious Parents" about Belmont school.—l f.m, etc., THIRD ANXIOUS PARENT.-
