THE PASSIONATE LATIN.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—lt was with the greatest of pleasure that I read Mr. Stubb's article "A Tour in Italy." The dirt he speaks of is not found in that country alone, but is to be met everywhere, even in some of the London and Paris streets. The writer appears to think that courting in Italy must be difficult, but I can assure your readers that it takes place everywhere; in the streets, under the windows, in the parks, in every direction where there is youth, beauty or a soul ready to love. It is well freedom between sexes is not allowed in Italy as much as it is in this privileged land. Restriction there is the better policy, for with such a passionate race, love is often stronger than reason. I remember as a child, a beautiful girl, a neighbour of ours, who was only to see her beloved through the half closed shutters of her window but, no matter the heat the ram, the wind, the cold, for months her lover" was there in the street looking up in spite of the small missiles thaf we children sometimes dropped on him in fun. Could we imagine such a proceeding among the English? When far away the young long to be back aaain and the old never forget such courting such love, such times.—l am, etc., PALAZZI. ——^——— — '
