SOUTH ISLAND COMPLAINT.
TRADE WITH AUSTRALIA. i AN UNSATISFACTORY SERVICE. J (By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") ; DUNEDIN, this day. 1 The South Island, as has been pointed j out frequently of late, suffers a severe - injustice by the poor connection that 1 there is with Australia. The Importers ' and Shippers' Association is again draw- 1 ing the Union Company's attention to - its promise regarding a fortnightly cargo 1 service from Sydney. The Whangape ■ was here on November 5. the Karetu on ' November 23, and the Whangape is due \ here on December 19. It will be December 21, at the earliest, before she is * finally discharged, and that allows , importers only three days to take deli- • very before Christmas. The weekly boat ; from Sydney arrives at Wellington and Auckland almost to an hour, and departs ' with the same regularity. It is hoped, i during the coming year," that the South' ' Island will take definite steps to restore t and firmly establish, its shipping trade' 1 and let the world know that it is not i near to, but a part of, New Zealand. c
