WRESTLING.
N.Z. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. AT TOWN HALL TO-NIGHT. The New Zealand Wrestling Association is systematically striving to get the sport of wrestling put on a proper basis. Since itb formation, the association has been fostering an interest in the sport oy means of matching recognised professional champions, and guaranteeing their appearance under regular supervision. At the same time, selected amateur bouts were staged, with the result that interest among young wrestlers has been stimulated to such an extent that the association deems the time ripe for holding a New Zealand amateur wrestling carnival, to get the amateur titles established on a regular foundation. This tourney will be staged at the Town Hall concert chamber this evening. Large entries have been received, and, under the principle of time bouts, the officials are satisfied that they will get through the long programme smartly, and that the competitors will be on their mettle to avoid stalling, and so get a definite verdict in each case within the time limit. Under these conditions, and with the wrestling starting at 7 p.m. it is fully expected . that the programme will be bright and full < of interest. During the course of the evening the Timaru boxer. Eddie Parker, who is in trainlne to meet Marcel Thuru, of France, at Auckland, on December 28, will be introduced to the audience.
