Since early morning, three gangs of voluntary workere, have been engaged nailing up timber, painting, and draining, all working at top speed. Up to the present, the services have been held in a little stone building at Mission Bay, but recently it was decided to erect another hall. Prior to to-day a certain amount of work in getting the founda-" tions ready had been carried out, and it was decided to organise a working-bee. Offers of voluntary labour were numerous, and to-day operations are in full swing. A gang of carpenters is in charge of Mr. McLean, the painters under Mr. Clark, ; and drainers under Mr. Johnston, while Mr. Steel has charge of the electricians. i With coat off, and apron on, the Rev. '■ Houchin is in the carpenters' gang. From a large marquee the Ladies' Guild is dis- | pensing refreshments to the workers. ■ Miss Atkin, whc gave the site to the parish, is a sister of one of the Melanesian missionaries who was massacred in the early days when Bishop Patterson shared the same fate. Later, it is proposed to build a memorial church in memory of the Melane*ian martyrs. In the meantime divine service will be held lin the hall.
