; co koner's inquest. Mr. A. M. Barriball, coroner for the , Waiuku district, held an inquest upon i the body of the boy Oswald Blake, who I was drowned on the West Coast. After ! identification by the father, Mr. J. Blake, i James Harkncss said he arranged with :R. Cox, another school fellow, to stay I away from school and go to the West ' Coast for the day. They met deceased, j who agreed to go with them. On arrival ■at the Coast they went in for a bathe, witness being the only one who cOuld j swim a little. On finding themselves in i a hole, witness swam for shore, but, j hearing cries for help, returned and dragged Cox out. He went after Blake, I but deceased was being carried out, and j witness could not reach him. Cox went ! for assistance, and in the meantime the I body was washed ashore; witness tried I the usual means of resueitation without ! result. Dr. Howdcn with Constable | Christiansen motored out, but on arrival the doctor could only pronounce life J extinct. This evidence was corroborated jby R. Cox, the verdict being accidental j death by drowning.
