MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.
There was a full attendance of members at Monday evening's meeting of the Manurewa Town Board, the chairman (Mr. A. C A. Sexton) presiding. Great South Road.—The clerk (Mr. H. Kay) advised, in connection- with the reconstruction of ' the 42' chains of the road to the north of the township, that he had the pre_n_nary arrangements in hand ln regard to the necessary loan poll to be held on December Ist. This poll would be preceded by a meeting of ratepayers, ta be held on a date to be arranged. The chairman stated that Mr. W. R. Frost, the civil engineer employed by the board, to supervise the concreting work, would address; the board on the subject of "Concrete." The Main Highways Board wrote stating that it had been deemed advisable to have the concrete bridge over the railway line between Manurewa and Mahia skewed to an angle which would admit of a better alignment of the road at that point. The letter asked If the board would be prepared to contribute a share of the estimated cost, which approximated a total at _ano. rt was decided to reply asking for further particulars of the proposed alterations. Railway Station Accommodation. —The chairman reported that, following on his complaints to the Department that city workers' bicycles were left at the Manurewa station, exposed to all weathers. He understood that arrangements were being made to provide housing accommodation for these vehicles.
Cncknt Club.—The Cricket Club wrote requesting the hoard to provide a concrete boiler. Mr. C. A. Fawsett maintained that the Cricket Club had not "helped itself to any considerable extent Mr G. GaUaher said that the club had not shown any acknowledgment of what the board had done for it. On Mr. Gallaher's motion it was decided to' instal a boiler, subject to conditions to be arranged by the Reserves Committee.
Light and Power.—On the chairman's motion: it waa decided tn write to the Auckland Electric Power Board, stating that it was the board's opinion that the ten per cent additional levy operating in outer suburban districts should be discontinued and requesting: that the matter be reconsidered.
Erection of Bach.—An appUeation waa received from Mr. L. M Mills for permission to erect a temporary dwelling, constructed of motor car cases, at the rear of a tour-acre seetion fronting Oram's Eoad. In view of. the applicant's offer to enter "into a bond! to remove the building within twelve months if required, the application was granted,, Messrs. McCallum and Gallaher dissenting. Straying Cattle.—The board's ranger (Mr.. L. Baker) forwarded a report stating that he had inspected the district roads during the past six months, and had impounded eight cows and two horses. He , considered that the roads were now practically free from straying stock. Members agreed that the position was now more satisfactory.
