A note by the Judge says that the Court has settled the provisions relating to classification, wages, hours, overtime, holidays, meals and shore pay, and the matters in dispute have been subject to full and careful consideration by the members of the Court who, while not in complete accord as regards every provision, have decided to adopt the award as a whole without expressing any individual dissenting opinion. Wages are fixed as follow:—

Galley Staff: Wages on passenger steamers are at from £22 4/ a month for chief cook on intercolonial and for-eign-going steamers, and from £20 14/ for chief cook on other than intercolonial steamers, to £12 14/ for scullerymen. An assistantcook is to be carried on all cargo steamers with a crew of over twenty, with provision for an extra hand where there are passengers in excess of four. Hours of work will be nine per day, with provision for overtime at 2/3 per hour. Where a steamer leaves port on Sunday, galley staffs will receive an extra day's sea pay. Special provisions are made for excursions and public holidays.

Coastal vessels' rates are £16 4/ for chief stewards and cooks and £18 4/ where no assistant is employed, £12 4/ for assistant-cooks, and cadets a minimum of £8 5/. In the New Zealand Marine Cooks and Stewards' Award, wages range from £19 4/ for stewards in charge of cargo steamers to £13 15/ for first-grade assistants, and cadets £9 2/6 to £5 7/6. The awards apply only to steamers for which articles are taken out in New Zealand.
