"It is not suggested that there has been any wrong dealing with the trust funds,' , said Mr. Tudhope, who appeared for the Crown Law Office in the Magistrate's Court to-day when Frederick •James MeKenna, solicitor, of Patea, was charged with having failed to have his trust account for the year ended March 31, 1926, audited by a qualified accountant. Mr. Tudhope said he knew nothing about defendant apart from the fact that he had failed to have an audit made in spite of several warning letters. The minimum penalty was £50. In future it was not proposed to issue any warnings, but to prosecute immediately after June 30, by which date certificates should have reached the Crown Law Office. Mr. Treadwell (forMcKenna) said his client was a young man. and had been in practice five years. Admittedly there had been neglect on his part, but publicity would be punishment for him. George Patrick Portae was to-day fined the minimum penalty of £50 for failure for one month to have a trust account audited by a qualified accountant within three months after the end of the year, as required by the Law Practitioners' Amendment Act.
