"LOVE'S YOUNG DREAM.
COURTING IN SCHOOI.GROUND,
TWO YOUTHS, WARNED.
Two youths; had not long turned sixteen, appeared at the Police Court this morning, when they pleaded guilty to charges of having been found, without lawful excuse, by night, [on the premises of the Newton Central school.
Sergeant Calv ell stated that many complaints had been received by this police about youths and young girls! lounging in the doorways of the school! at night. Both accused were found! one night recently,.sitting in a doorway! in company with two girls. AH four' gave wrong names to the' constable when questioned. The cases were brought as a warning to others. One of the accused had been in slight trouble previously, while the other was a way- [ ward youth, who only seemed' to be at j home at meal times.
Mr. "J. J.,. Sullivan, who appeared for| both youths, said that both had gone 1 "courting" on the schoolgrounds. Jt was a case of love's young dream, and counsel suggested' that, accused might be dealt with leniently. j - Air. Hunt asked the youths what they worked at. One of the two stated that he was a butcher. • •
Mr. Hunt: You ought to be at a night, school instead of fooling about in a . schbolgroiiiid. Still, I suppose that there is nothing at the Technical College that would suit a butcher boy. You will both be- convicted and ordered to pay costs.' ■ Don't go there again at; night, do you hear.
