SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
THE COMING CONTEST. PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.! WHANGAREI; this day. A meeting held last night discussed preliminaries for the coming contest for the New Zealand sculling championship race between J. Mason (challenger), of Whangarei, and P. J. Hannan (holder), of Blenheim, which takes place on November 27 on the Whangarei River course. A resolution was carried that Hannan's terms of a guaranteed gate of £150, to be allotted in proportion of £100 to Hannan and £50 to Mason, win or lose, be accepted. This later development arose out the expense which the holder incurs in coming to Whangarei and is apart from the stake of £100 a side.
It was also decided that the admission charged to a roped-off area be 2/6 for adults and 2/ for children. Various committees were set up to proceed with organising arrangements.
