ROWING.
The Mercer Rowing Club held the annual competition for the Seymour Cup and medals on Saturday afternoon. Five crews competed. The race was pulled against the strong current of a flooded river Results are:— First heat.—W. Oliver (stroke , A. Pitt, L. Allan and L. Parsons defeated R. Barnes (stroke). X. Douglas, L. Hutton and K. Barron, by one length and a half. Second heat.—A. Tuckey (stroke), J. C. Baker, C. E. Cooper and N. Pennell defeated .1 Watts. L. Hayes. C. Dix and S. Watkinson. Won by a length. Third Heat.—T. Wright. J. Kiddie, C. Oliver and E. Beamish, a bye. Semi-final.—Oliver defeated Wright by a canvas; a splendid race. The final proved one of the finest races rowed here for some time, Tuckey beating Oliver by a bare canvas.
