LIFE SAVING COSTUME.

(To the Editor.l Sir, —Having connected with the life saving movement in New South Wales for some considerable tame, and holding the positions of examiner to the association and captain and chief " instructor of the Cronulla. Surf Lite Saving Club. I would I'i'ke to state that the lads of 'ililford who patrol this beach for the humane purpose of saving life have a real case when they complain of the regulation which is to be forced upon them by the council. The one->piece costume is by far the better garment to wear. Not only does it give free movement to the swimmer, but also adde> speed to his swimming, which is a necessity in making rescues. This eoetuine has no overlapping portions that the drowning person may graep. If the councillors of Mllford have ever tried to save a drowning person, they undoubtedly would know that the rescuer has n better chance of eeeuring his hold of the patient in a one-piece costume than having the over-lapping portion of the cwo-piece for the patient to hold on to. thereby causing difficulty of rescue. In New South Wales the home of surf life caving, one-piece costumes are strongly recommended, to all swimmers, whether they belong to the life easing movement or not, for who knows that maybe any day the ordinary swimmer may be called upon to make a rescue. Take advice early "before a fatality occurs, and banish the two-piece costume in favour of the one-piece garment.—l am, etc., H. P. CONGDON.
