AUCKLAND POWER BOARD.
TENDERS FOR METERS. MANAGER'S RECOMENDATIOX. ''For many years past practically the whole of tlie board's meter requirements , have been supplied by one British firm," stated the general manager (Mr. R. H. Hartley) in the course of a report which was received at a meeting of the Auckland Electric Power Board this afternoon.
The general manger contended that the selection of the particular meter was a wise one, and remarkably little meter trouble had been experienced. He considered that it would be in the board's interests to call tenders for the whole of the meter supply for a period of three years, as it would be a bad policy to change too often. He added that the board spent from £12,000 to £15,000 per year on m«-.ers. The chief engineer (\Jr. A. O. Glasse) stated for the week ending August 23 120 overhead services had been completed, and a service gang had erected 14.720 yards of cable. A high-tension cable had been laid between the main station and Amusement Park, and the new Urafton Road feeder from Newmarket sub-station had been connected and put into service. The main in Upper Queen Street was being relaid. Parts of CJlcnside Crescent and Franklin Road had been rewired with heavier ca Me. and the erection of poles on the Mission Bay Estate had been completed on all roads that were open. A high-tension line to the Public Works Department's crusher at Panmure had been completed. Poles had been erected in Selwyn and Raumati Roads (Kohimarama"), Onslow Road, Bollard Avenue and Weymouth Road. In connection with street lighting, 4200 yards of cable had been laid at Avondale. In the city 1240 yards of overhead cable and 2279 of underground cable bad been laid.
