OBITUARY.
MR. W. C. ESDAILE. Many in Auckland will regret to learn of the death on Saturday of Mr. William Crowder Esdaile, a resident- of New Zealand for over fprty years. Of that period he lived thirty years at Takapuna. Mr. Esdaile had attained the age of 77 years. For some time he carried on business as a land agent in Auckland, but after meeting with a serious accident he lived retired for many years. Mr. Esdaile had been an active worker in connection with St. Peter's Church. Takapuna, as warden and treasurer for thirty years. He was also a lay reader of remarkable ability, and was on the Commission of the Justices of the Peace. He is survived by his wife, one daugh ter. and one son. Mr. E. Esdaile.
A sliort service was held this afternoon at the home, Napier Avenue, after which the interment took place at O'Neill's Point Cemetery. At the confirmation service at St. Peter's Church, Takapuna, last night, Archbishop Averill prefaced his address to the candidates by saying how much he personally felt Mr. Esdaile's loss, while the Church had loet one who, while quiet and unassuming in manner, was ever staunch and loyal in hie ciiurchmanship, and tru and reliable in all he undertook. ' Such men were the true pillars of the Church.
