SUPPRESSION ORDER REFUSED.
ALLEGATIONS OF FRAUD,
(By Telegraph.—Press Association J PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. "I think the public should know about this man," stated Senior-Detective Quirke at the Magistrate's Court this morning, when counsel applied for the suppression of the name of Robert Forbes Reid (37), charged with that, on August 6 at Wanganui, he issued a valueless cheque for £20 and' obtained a diamond ring and £2 in money, and that, op August 28, at Palmerston North, he issued a valueless cheque for £20 and obtained goods valued at £18 and £2 in money. "He is wanted at Taumarunui and there are about ten charges to be preferred against him at Wanganui," proceeded the senior-detective. "He came to Palmerston North on Saturday, registered at an hotel under a false name, ami started to defraud. He came here with three cheques for £20-" . The magistrate (Mr. J. G. Hewitt,l S.M.) : I don't think I should suppress his name. On the application of the police, accused was remanded till Monday next.
