PROVINCIAL NEWS.

MANUBEWA. A pleasant revival of community singing I in Manurewa was organised by the local cricket club, considerable interest being displayed In the event. There was a good, attendance of the general public. The singing was led by Mr. H. V. Burton in hie usual capable manner. A splendid programme ,of musical items was also rendered by. local and visiting artists. DRURY. An interesting and varied programme was rendered at a concert given in the Drnry Public Hall on Thursday evening, under the direction of the local Sports Club. Local artists and visitors from Tuakau were responsible for the majority of the items, these being fully appreciated by the crowded audience. At the conclusion of the programme the president of the club (Rev. Hubbard) extended thanks to the performers for their efforts, mentioning that the satisfactory sum of £28 had been netted as a result of the entertainment He also expressed the club's appreciation of the work done by Messrs. W. Alt and L. H. Pegler in regard to the organisation The following artists contributed: Mr , Reyburn, pianoforte solo; Mrs. Steer, Messrs. Hudson, f. Martin. Peacock, Howe, Reyburn, songs: Mrs. Martin, song and dance: Mrs. W. Alt, recitation; Miss Chapman, violin solo;- Mrs Martin and Mr Howe, Mrs. Steer and Mr. Reyburn, Mrs. Steer and Mr. Martin, duets; Mr. Peacock, monologue; Mrs. Steer and- Mr. Martin, comedietta. The proceeds of the entertainment are to be devoted to the formation of a tennis club. ALFRISTON. A farewell social and dance was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. J. Davies in the Papakura Valley Hall on Thursday evening, in view of their imminent departure from the district. Mr. H. W. Wood presided, the hall beJnjj packed to its doors. On behalf of the residents of the district, Mr. John Mnir made a presentatiou of a beautiful lounge chair and a massive eiderdown.
