An interesting relic of the early days of the telephone, whose jubilee is to be celebrated this year, can be seen at the Dunedin Public Library in the form of a letter written by the inventor, Alexander Graham Bell, 48 years' ago, to the secretary of the Telephone Company, Ltd. ,
The fact that tame rabbits had been taken into the Poverty Say districtwas mentioned at a meeting of fife East Coast Rabbit Board by the chairman, who said that- the board had no jurisdiction in a case where the. rabbits were not imported for liberation. The lady who had taken the rabbits to Gisborne, had done so for the purpose of breeding them until she had sufficient to kill.them oft* for their skins. They were white rabbits, and he did not think they would lire if they escaped. Advice has been received in Auckland to the'effect that there has been a very mild outbreak of typhoid amongst the Maoris at Whangaroa. On inquiry at the Auckland District Health Office this morning a "Star" reporter was informed that the cases, which, numbered five, had been carefully attended to and that all the necessary precautions had been, takes. Health inspectors were travelling throughput the district, and it was not thought that the disease would spread. In his course on Sir Oliver Lodge's latest book, the Rev. A. Thornhill will deliver a lecturette at the Unitarian Church, Ponsonby Road, to-morrow night at 7 o'clock ou "Man's Nature, Origin and Destiny ia the Light of Evolution."
