OBITUARY.
MR. 6. F. SAUNDERS. The death occurred on Thursday of Mr. George Foster Saunders at the age of 71" .Born in Andover, Hampshire, he came- out to New Zealand when 16 yetirs of age in the sailing ship* Wild Duck, which-was wrecked on the return voyage Home. He started work as an apprentice to Mr. Haliday, cabinetmaker, of Shortland Street, and was-' with the old firm of Garlick and Cranwell for many years. His father had one of the first tailoring establishments in this city, situated at the corner of Queen Street and Rutland Street, later building on the old Market Square, whero he was twice burnt out, and eventually erecting a fine, two-storeyed brick - shop and dwelling which was standing until the devastation of the Civic Square. Mr. Saunders, is survived by his wife and it wo children (Mr. Frank Saunders and Mrs: Oh as. Hansen) and seven grandchildren of .this city.
