SAILORS INJURED.
ATTACKED BY A GANG.
IN" HYDE PARK. Two sailors, Edward Burke, aged 22 years, of H.M.A.s. Penguin, and Francis Foster, aged 24 years, of H.M.A.S. Adelaide, were attacked and robbed by a gang of five men in Hyde Park, Sydney, about 7.30 at night. The two men informed the police that they were proceeding to their homes when the gang suddenly sprang from the shadows and attacked them. Three men set upon Burke, who was of bigger build thaji his companion, and the other two tackled Foster. The latter was almost immediately knocked to the ground with a severe blow on the nose. While he was there he was kicked several times. His assailants then rifled his pockets, taking about 13/ in money. Meanwhile, Burke had managed ,to keep his feet during his struggle, but when the whole five men attacked him he was felled. He was then kicked on the head and knocked almost insensible. He later discovered that about 25/ had been stolen from his pockets. When the sailors recovered their senses they found the gang had disappeared. They then proceeded to Sydney Hospital, where their injuries were treated.
