RANFURLY SHIELD MATCH.
REFLECTIONS BY "SINBAD."
What happened to Auckland's elect at Xapier last Saturday, that they were =0 utterly wrecked? It came as a shock. 1 must pay, although wo could hardly expect a victory over the Bay. Our men were not lacking in skill—that fact is not open to doubt—but Cooke would appear to he still a man to write lyrics about. Assisted by Grenside and Hill he put his old team mates to rcrtit, while X^pia—he of the grin—joined jokfully in the pursuit. The union for him has it in. but Ooorjre does not worry one hoot—in fact, it was almost a sin the points that he scored oiT his boot. The Brownlies were risrht on the ball as soon as the whistle had gone; they gave it no pity at all. but ceaselessly hurried it on. • They set us. those breakaways tall, some problems to ponde*r upon; it was. let us m.ike no mistake, a most overwehning reverse. Yet, though there are folk who may make some comments both fiery and terse, there's one consolation to take—that Wellington's fate was much worse.
