EAST AND WEST EXHIBITION.
OPENS TO-NIGHT
Organised by the Anglican Board of Missions, to instruct and entertain, the East and West Exhibition will open a ten-session season in the.Town Hall this evening. The exhibition will be officially opened by the Primate of New Zealand, Archbishop Averill, at 8 o'clock, and will be open each afternoon and evening until Saturday next. Special entertainments have been arranged for each afternoon and night session.
The exhibition itself gives an opportunity of showing in a pictorial way the work of the mission fields. Stories of many lands and tin? methods employed in missionary work will be told, and visitors will be given a colourful contrast between the mission fields of the East and West. Some faint idea of the immensity of the missionary task confronting the church will be gleaned from this elaborate display.
A feature of the various entertainments will be the choir of over 300 voices, comprising members of practically all the church choirs in Auckland. Pageant processions of hundreds of people in costumes of many lands will wend their way -through the crowds each evening. Maori historical tableaux, illustrating scenes of importance and interest in the early life of the Dominion, will be presented by a Maori concert party, and instrumental music will be given by various well-known Auckland orchestras and bands. A novelty will be the wireless messages broadcasted from leading missionary enthusiasts overseas. A special loud speaker will be used. A number of playettes will be presented throughout the season, and beautiful Maori songs and dances will given. Scenes illustrative of the life of Indian women of high caste will be accurately performed, and scenes from life in Moslem lands will be depicted. Never before has an exhibition of this magnitude been attempted in New Zealand, and it promises to eclipse in every way all previous displays of its kind.
