STABLE AND TRACK GOSSIP. (By WHALEBONE.) FIXTURES FOB COMING EVENTS. ..- July 29, 31—Gisborne ft.C. Winter, July 31—Chrlstcburcb Hunt Annual. August 7—Poverty Bay Hunt Club. Cohesion, who -was trained by J. Buchanan at Ellerslie, ran second at Gisborne yesterday, while Jeanette, who used to be in the same stable, registered a win. Apparently there is conic doubt about that good horse Gaillnrd standing a preparation, but if he does he is ticked off as likely to run prominently in the spring. Highway, who won the Gisborne Steeplechase yesterday, showed at Wellington that he was coming back to form. He was not opposed by a very strong lot and the Victory was ail easy one. Tall Timber, when properly right, is a good horse, but at Ellerslie he has not I been pleaeing sufficiently in his work to warrant sending him all the Way to Riccarton, and, therefore, as stated yesterday, he will remain at home. H. Hickeys colt by Catmint from Merry Roe, is coming on nicely, and on Tuesday morning at Hastings ran a good three furlongs in company. He was broken in last February, so will have it on many others of his own age. In a round over the hurdles at Hast- ! ings, Little River (A. Lord) showed a clean pair of heels to Landbird (P. Holman), although the latter was making up a deal of ground over the last two furlongs. The Great Northern Hurdle winner is reported to be in rare fettle. Eerie 'broke down while contesting the Great Northern Steeplechase, and some doubts Were entertained regarding whether she. would stand another preparation. However, she has been taken in band again by E. Murtagh, and it is hoped that she will be patched up again. Polar, who won at Gisborne yesterday, is a pretty well-bred sort for he is by Polydamon from Arbroath by Aberbroj thoekj who was a good racehorse iir his day, from Sanguinary, the dam of Royal Blood. Polar has won four races this I season, while he has been placed- on other occasions. A half-brother to Zaza by Kilboy at Hastings, the property of Mr. Jim Rtzpatrick, is one of the nicest of that horse's progeny that "The Barb" has seen at this age. Since being broken in he has grown considerably, so he will not be asked anything serious until well irito the season. Cherry Girl was recently disposed of by J. Thorpe tit a Gisborne sportsman and she registered her first victory when she scored in the second division of the Maiden at Gisborne yesterday. She has run second on a couple of occasions prior to leaving Ellefelie. She is by Swift I Flight-from Cherry Roe* arid therefore a ' j half-sister to Cherry Ripe. Her dam is I also' half-sister to Merry Roe. > The younger full-sister to White Fang (Polydamon—Natalite) has had the name of White Sister bestowed upon ■ Her (says "The Squir«j"). If she turns out as good as her brother, she will be ; good property to control, as White Fang, who made his debut on the racing track this season, has four wine to his credit (all in sequence) and a second placing out of half a dozen essays. The success of Tea Tfay in hie first season, which amounted to a New Zealand record, and induced Sue purchase by Mr. I. G. Duncan for the Eldefslie stud; has prompted a well-ktiowil Australian sportsman to patronie the Tetrareli horse. Mr. Duncan received ft cablegram a few days ago from Mr. P. H. Osborne, owner of the cfaek filly Valicare, that Nuit, a rifling three-year-oid filly by Absurd--Afterglow, had been shipped "to thfe Dominion. Nuit who brought 1450 guineas as a yearling, ha« met with injuries which will prevent her .racing, and she Is to visit Tea Tray this "coming season, and to remain -for another service thfi following season. She arrived in Wellington on Tuesday. The loss of Sturdee will be a severe one to Mr. C. 1 , . Vallahce, for at Hastings he was thought to have a good chance of winning the Grand National I Steeplechase, an event he won in 1924 I after scoring in the June Steeplechase at j HaU-ke's Bay and running unplaced in the July Steeplechase at Wellington. I This year he had performed similarly I and all he had to do was to win the Grand National to complete the coincii deiice. From further southern advices it appears that when approaching the hencoop during a schooling task at the Hastings course, Sturdee apparently misjudged it and put in an stride, breasting the obstacle.and falling on his head. Miss G. Mahef, who trains for i Mr. Vallance, had a previous bit of bad luck, for on her last visit to Auckland one of her team received injuries while training and had to be destroyed. The Christchurch Hunt Club's meeting will be held at Riccarton to-morrow, and this fixture is a most interesting one in view of the fact that many horses who will compete at the Grand National meeting will be seen in action. In the Hunters' Hiirdles Revel and April Showers will probably carry most money, while in the Lawford Steeplechase public support will probably be given to Mainspring. Flourish and Mataij puke. The Open Hiirdles has attracted j a good field, and Brigadier Bill, after his win at Wellington in the Trentham Hurdles, appears to be nicely placed. I Ijiicullent and Black Cruiser may also lip well fancied. In the Homeby Steeple- ' c-hnse the distance should suit Passin' : Thronsrli. who left to the last fence in the Wellington Steeplechase. He was just beaten in this event last year. Kendal and Kawini will also have friends. The Brabazon Welter usually gives ah indication in regard to Winter Cup candidates. Sun tip won this race last year and finished second in the Winter Cup : and lie la reported to be in great fettlp. Rapier won on two , occasions at Wellington, while Nippy is ! a most useful sort. Pink Note, The i Harp and Chickwheat may be best backed of the others. Probably Sun I Up, Nippy And Chickwheat will* carry i most money. If reserved for the Hunters* Plate, April Showers will have some friends i while Rory , not, be neglected) This pair filled tlip , leading positions in similar events at ; the Waimate and South Canterbury , itunt meetings last week. In the Flying Hack Handicap Paddon is sure to be best fancied after his performances at I Wellington, while of the others His » Majesty and Lytup may be most in demand.

Bisox is reported to be looking well at present and should be useful next season. Fireblight continues to please in her National preparation (says a Hawke's Bay writer). She was never better. First Acre has been taken up again after a long spell, if he is not over-' raced this season tie should pay his way. THE GISBORNE MEETING. M THE OPENING DAY. __ j- .
