COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.
Local musical and literary enthusiasts will be interested to know that the Competitions Society has been considerably strengthened, and is now actively preparing for a big festival, commencing in the Town Hall and Unity Hall in October next. Funds are coming in steadily, and the society is confident that the present year will see competitions in Auckland established in as firm favour as they are in the Southern cities. The election of officers and the various committees will take place at the annual general meeting, which is called in our advertising columns for Monday evening October 19, in the lecture room at Unity Hall, Queen Street. Mr. Frank Adeane, the newly. appointed secretary, advises that the syllabus is now being prepared, and will be issued before the end of this month
