SINGING IN SCHOOLS.
(To the Editor.l Sir, —I am sure tho move now being made in this direction will prove most fruitful. Why it was ever dispensed with is difficult to understand. Certainly in the interim the character of the average boy and girl has not been enobled. To refer to present-day songs as trashy is, I consider, putting it mildly. Why, in comparison even that "old ditty' "What 0, She Bumps"' would be acceptable. And as for the teachers, capable as they may be in ordinary subjects, they do not necessarily possess that gift for instruction. I recollect one aspirant giving the boys, as he thought, some enlightenment, and, after running through the song, the boys thanked him for his recitation. When -we had selected singing masters visiting the school years ago our ambitions certainly rose beyond such derelicts as "Aby" and "Bananas." Let us trust they may cease to "reign" any more. —I am," etc.," ARTHUR CUMMINGS.
