GROOM POSES AS GOLFER.

FREE BOARD SPECIALIST.

SLEEPS ON HILLS

(By Telegraph—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. "Attired in golfing clothes, with a golf bag slung over his shoulder, he had little difficulty in getting into the hotels." Such was part of a statement made by Chief Detective Ward in regard to William Peter Ellis, a groom, charged in the Magistrate's Court with being idle and disorderly, with insufficient means of support. He said the youth came to New Zealand last October from England. He worked on a farm at Hawera until February. His conduct after he left it was not very satisfactory. He was not very industrious when he came to Wellington, but only worked a short while, and had been out of work since April. He stayed at leading hotels at Hawera, New Plymouth, and Wanganui without paying his board. Latterly he had been sleeping on the hills at Karori. Defendant was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on within 12 months.
