TRAFFIC BRIDGE REFUSED.
■REPLY FROM MINISTER.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, Thursday. Yesterday the Paeroa Chamber of Com meree received the following letter from the Minister of Railways (Hon. J. G. Coates): — "With reference to the deputation introduced to mc by Mr. A. XI. Samuel, M.F., at Paeroa on May 27 last regarding the overbridge at the Hill Street railway crowing, in connection with which a petition signed by Mr. W. H. Taylor and To others was presented urging the provision of a vehicular overbri<lge instead of a footbridge at this point, I have to inform yon that the matters referred to in the petition have been carefully considered, but it Is regretted that a vehicular overbridge cannot be provided except at the cost of the local authority. In providing a footbridge at this crossing tbe Railway Department has undoubtedly fully met the position In so far as its own clients are concerned, and I am convinced the Department cannot be reasonably called upon to accept responsibility, which is clearly a matter for the local bodies interested."
