AMBASSADORS HOTEL.

GRANTING THE LICENSE.

THE ABSENT COMMITTEE MAN.

The following is a copy of a letter forwarded by the Council of Christian Congregations on July 2, 1026, to Mr. A. Thompson, to which so far no reply has been received: — "Dear Sir, —The following is a copy of a resolution carried unanimously, after full consideration, by the executive of the council, last night: 'That the executive of the Council of Christian Congregations regards as entirely unsatisfactory the explanation made to representatives of the council by Mr. A. Thompson, respecting his absence from the Auckland Licensing Committee when it was dealing the second time with the Ambassadors Hotel license; and. further, having seen a copy of a letter endorsed by Mr. Thompson and signed by his solicitor, appearing in to-day's issue of the 'Xew Zealand Herald,' which is, in substance, the explanation given to the council's representatives, is strongly of opinion that the reasons given do not justify Mr. Thompson's absence from the meeting; and therefore he does not stand acquitted of a grave dereliction of public duty. The executive expresses approval of the council's representatives' refusal to allow any facilities for private or semi-private explanations.' We intend to publish the correspondence after allowing a few days for reply.— (Signed) H. Ranston, president; PI. Field and C. H. Furness, hon. secretaries."
