THE TROTTING CONFERENCE.
OPENED TO-DAY. (By Telegraph.—Pr n ss' Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The New Zealand Trotting Conference opened this morning, the president's address being delivered by Mr. IT. F. Nicboll. and the report and balancesheet being adopted without discussion. Mr. Green (Gore) moved that the Owners' and Breeders' Associations in New Zealand be represented at the conference. Mr. Nieholl said he could not accept that remit as it would mean an alteration of the constitution. Mr. McKenna (New Brighton) moved to add to Rule 24: "No appeal shall be allowed against the decision of tiis Association to any person whose application for a license to train, ride, or drive, or to any person whose application to register a horse has been refused, or to any person the registration of whose horse has been cancelled." T-:;s was lost by a large majority. A remit by the executive stated: "If an A. and P. Association wishes to put on trotting events for children under 15, it shall not be deemed a race meeting, unregistered meeting, nor sports meeting, for the purpose of the rule." This was carried. The rule merely relieves such body applying to the association for a permit. Mr. Williams, on behalf of the Wellington Association, moved in the direction of substituting stipendiary stewards for stewards and judicial committee in Rule SS, referring to the duties of patrol members or observations during a race meeting. This was carried.
An Ashburton remit to add to the rule concerning unruly or vicious horses at the start that the stipendiary stewards shall report to the association any horse they consider vicious or unruly at the starting post, and that the association might advise clubs that the entry of such horse shall not be accepted during the pleasure of the association, was lostA Gore remit that the present system of handicapping be altered, and that no horse be penalised unless it has won a race, was lost.
