FORTY-FIVE-HOUR WEEK

The Dominion award filed in the dispute between the New Zealand federated woollen mills employees and the manufacturing companies, provides for a 45----hour week. 8-1 hours on five days, and 31 hours on Saturday. Hours at night shall be arranged between the mill manager and the majority of night workers. It is provided that, subject to the provisions of the Factories Ace, the daily hours of any section of workers may be other than those set forth.

If mutually agreed between the manager and majority of the workers affected, overtime would be at the rate of time and a-half for the first three hours, double time thereafter, also on Sundays and holidays.

Minimum wage for females, who have served four years or upwards, 1/ per hour

Wages of male adults as follows: Wool sorters, weavers (hand loom), warpers, spinners, assistant corders. tuners, -2/1 per hour; wool scourers, chain winders, assistant combers, head pressers, 1/11: all other workers, 1/10.

Wages of one hourly workers are entitled to be paid only for time actually worked.

Minimum rate for girls: First six months. 1.5/; second six months. 17/6; third, £1; fourth, £1 2/0. fifth, £1 5/; sixth. £1 7/6: seventh. £1 10/; eighth. £1 15/.

Minimum for boys: Youths, 14-15. £1: 16-17, ££1 6/6; 17-18. £1 11/6: 18-10, 10Jd per hour. 10-20, 1/1: -20-21. 1/4}.

Piecework: Both mades and females are rated as at 14th December, 1914. plus 40 per cent; in case of weavers. 25 per cent; all other cases as provided for pieceworkers, except that weavers shall receive not less than the amount specified for time workers. Any weaver of four years' experience who does not average the minimum wage over a period of four weeks, shall have wages made up.
