DIPHTHERIA AT THAMES.
ACTIVE PREVENTIVE MEASURES.

THAMES, this day.
Dr. Mary Wilson, of the Auckland staff of the Health Department, has arrived here in connection with the diphtheria outbreak, and has already commenced a campaign to prevent the further spread of the disease. It is stated that the Department has the situation well in haud. Children attending the schools are to receive inoculation treatment, and there will be thorough fumigation of the buildings as well as of all books.
It is thought that it will not become necessary to close the schools.
