AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY.
BIBLE SOCIETY WORK.
The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Presbytery was held last evening in St. David's Building's, when the Eev. R. S. Watson was Moderator.
A resolution of sympathy was passed with Mr. B. H. MeKinney and family in their bereavement through the accidental death of their son.
The Rev. R. N. White was appointed compiler of statistics for the Presbytery. Maungaturoto Charge.—The Rev. George Budd reported that Mr. A. R. Cuthbertson had been appointed to the charge of Maungaturoto Parish. He also stated it had been decided to make a grant of £25 for the present year to Henderson.
The Rev. J. D. McKenzie was granted three months' leave of absence for health reasons. It was stated Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie propose visiting the New Hebrides, where they will represent the New Zealand Presbyterian Church at a Synod to be held there shortly. Three months additional leave of absence was also granted the Rev. W. McDonald for health reasons.
The Moderator tendered a hearty welcome to the Rev. D. Calder, New Zealand Secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, who, he mentioned, was also a minister of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Calder briefly addressed the Presbytery on the great work, and growing need of the society. He stated that 11,000,000 copies of the Scripture were distributed in China by the three great societies. Another encouraging matter was the growing demand all over the world for copies of the Bible. The income of the society last year was £391,000, but that was not enough to meet the increasing demands. On the ,motion of the Rev. R. N. White it was that the Presbytery heartily commend the great work to ministers and congregations within its bounds.
