AUCKLAND POULTRY KEEPERS.
THE ANNUAL MEETING.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
The annual meeting of the Auckland Poultry-keepers' Association was held at the Trades Hall last evening, when there was a large attendance of members. The president (Mr. K. J. Roberts) was in the chair.
The annual report stated that the principal work of the year had been the management of the egg-laying contest, which was held at Mount Albert. The contest proved very successful in some respects, but the heavy breeds showed a greater falling off in numbers gaining the 2oz standard than in the previous test. In the heavy breed section a bird belonging to Mr. Chas. Dunstan laid 301 eggs, while a bird belonging to Mr. J. McLean laid 300 eggs, both being excellent records. Black Orpingtons again had preI mier place, Mr. W. U. Timewell's' team layI ing 828 eggs, with an average of 24.03. Mr. 'D. RUey's team of fawn and white Indian Runner ducks were the runners-up.
The treasurer (Sir. R. Gordon Hunt), in a report stated that owing to satisfactory prices obtained for eggs during the test there was a profit of £217 19/, compared with £180 for the previous year, which were the best figures up to that time. The cost of feed was still a matter of great concern, but the matter would have been much more serious had not the Government removed the duty off Australian wheat. The gross profit per bird for the last test was 3/6 more than in the previous year. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. R. J. Roberts; vice-president, Mr. A. Stewart; country vice-presidents, Messrs. W. U. Timewell (Whangarei), M McLean (Rotorna), A. Boyd (Napier), S. Johnson (Palmerston North), H. Leger (Levin) W. Scott (New Plymouth), G. H. Shaw (Thames) ; treasurer, Mr. E. G. Hunt: members of executive, Messrs. E. Muller, A. Harvey, G. A. Marshall, P. G. Baylis; auditor, Mr. L. G. Bedford.
After some discussion it was decided to weigh the eggs four times during the next laying contest, in August, September, January, and February. A proposal to have individual laying charts was left to the committee to deal with.
A special vote of thanks was tendered to Mrs. J. A. B. Hellaby and others who had assisted the association during the year
