AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.

PRINCE'S WHARF TIME-TABLE,

ALTERATIONS FOUND NECESSARY

The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday afternoon, the chairman (Mr. H. R. Mackenzie) presiding. Prince's Wharf Railway.—The Acting Town Clerk wrote stating that the City Council had agreed to amend the time-table regarding the running of trains to Prince's wharf. The table would be amended at the expiry of three months. The new table was read to the Board. The line will be closed daily from 7.30 to 8.15 a.m., 8.45 to 'J.."0, and 4 to 5.30 p.m. On Saturdays the line will be closed from 11.30 a.m. to 12.15 p.m., and from 12.45 to 1.30 p.m. The chairman explained that an amendment had been found necessary because there had been occasions when trains arrived late from the meat works, and ships had been held up, as the trains could not bring the goods to the wharf owing to the restrictions. As many as one hundred men had been forced to hang around, unable to work the ships. In the case of large overseas vessels this was serious. The amendment hud been made only to serve in an emergency. Bicycles on Devonport Wharf.—On the suggestion of the chairman, following a report from the traffic manager, it was decided that two vacant offices, measuring 20ft by 20ft, at the street end of the Devonport wharf, be made available for bicycles, the Board to have no responsibility.

Onehunga Wharf Dues.—The superintendent reported on the collection of dues at Onehunga Wharf. In referring the matter to the Fnance Commttee, the chairman said: "Now that they have got a good up-to-date wharf at Onehunga, I think the charges should be brought more into line with those at Auckland."

No Donation.—"Much as we sympathise with this appeal, I do not think we should make a donation out of the unauthorised expenditure account," said the chairman, when the secretary of the Y.W.C.A. wrote asking tor a donation to the girls' hostel and holiday house fund. Mr. Mackenzie said the Board never knew when it might have to call on the unauthorised expenditure account to relieve distress in the case of some unfortunate employee of the Board. He was of the opinion that the Y.W.C.A. appeal should be contributed to by individuals, rather than by bodies handling public money.—lt was decided not to make a contribution.
