THEFT CHARGES.
CHRISTCHURCH CASES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. In the Police Court to-day, before Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., M. C. McDonald, steeplechase rider, and William Mcßay, stable hand, of Woodville, were charged with the theft of £17 from the person of Thomas Henderson on May 27. Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved their defence, and were committed for trial.
William James Clifford True, aged 22, pleaded guilty to seven charges of the theft of moneys amounting to £31 14/8 from dwelling houses at Thames, Hamilton, Masterton, Belfast, Invereargill and Christchurch. In addition, two charges of false pretences were preferred against True on indictable charges, one of which "was a charge of obtaining money at Masterton by means of a valueless cheque, and the other of obtaining money by false pretences. True was committed for trial on the indictable counts. On the theft charges he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
