THE WATERFRONT HOTEL.
PROTEST BY RECHABITE ORDER.
The secretary of the Independent Order of Rechabite communicates the following:—
At a well-attended meeting of Hope of Eden, tent No. JO, held last night, at which district officers were present, a most emphatic protest was made on behalf of the. Independent Order of Rechabites against the granting of a license to the Ambassadors Hotel in Quay Street; the principle involved, the necessity of a liquor • license in the locality, being utterly ignored by those members of the committee who voted in favour of the licens/. This action must carry its own condemnation insomuch that such total disregard to the expressed wishes of the community cannot be allowed to pass unchallenged.
Keen appreciation was expressed of the action taken by the chairman of the committee, Mr. E." C. Cutten, S.M., for his outspoken disapproval and dissociation from the decision of the majority of the committee, and also for the prompt and timely and well-deserved criticism by the Press of our city.
