BOARD OF TRADE.
HAWKING OF SHARES
LONDON, June 7.
The committee of the Board of Trade which was appointed last year to investigate the present system of company law, has reported that the system generally i 3 a satisfactory one.
It is not desirable to impose restrictions that will hamper honest commerce, says the report, though the hawking of shares is outspokenly condemned. The committee has recommended that the offering of shares from house to house should be a punishable offence, as also should be the supplying of false particulars of each year's profits. Other recommendations are that dividends should be stated instead of averages; that abridged prospectuses with application forms annexed should be prohibited; and that articles which relieve directors from liabilty should be debarred. — (A. and N.Z.)
