The downpour here on Thursday evening has caused an enormous flow oi water to enter the Hikurangi Coal Co.'tj mine. '

At the bottom of the shaft it i» estimated that there is a depth of 14ft of water. The pumps are hard afc work,; but it is estimated that several weeks will elapse before the mine is clear, and. during this time over 130 men will be rendered idle.
