ACCIDENT AT PARNELL.

A young woman of about twenty years of age, Miss Hilda Hynes, wag knocked down by a motor car outside the Alexandra Hotel in Parnell Road. ' shortly before half-past nine this morning. She sustained cuts to the back of the head, bruises and slight concussion.

Miss Hynes had just stepped off an inward-bound Remuera tram car when she was knocked down. The driver extricated the girl from under the car and then drove her to the residence of Dr. A. Kinder, where her injurjea. .re* . ceived attention. Miss Hynes unfet*,',,* self unable to give any account of tli« . accident. From traces left it is evident that the , car was coming down the grade partly ' on the tram line, and that, after Hie brakes were applied, it skidded about fifty feet. Another motor car, driven by Mr. George Walker, which was pTeceding the car which knocked Miss Hynes down, came to a standstill on approaching the tram.

The following account of the accident is given by Mr. Walker: "I stopped at the rear of the tram car. pulled to the kerb, and put out my right hand in the ordinary way to stop any traffic coming on. This would leave about ten feet clear between the front of my car and the rear of the tram car. When I stopped I saw a young lady on the roadway—as to whether she was getting on or off the car I cannot say.. The next thing I knew was that another motor car cut in between mc and the . tram car, knocked her over, and she was carried under the car. Mr. 0. Butler, solicitor, who was sitting on the '• rear seat of my car, immediately jumped out to render assistance. The young lady was then driven away for medical attention. I heard the driver of the other car apply his brakes, but he skidded. At the point of impact witi the young lady the speed would not bt ; more than ten miles."

Miss Hynes was employed in the offiei of her father. Mr. A. H. Hynes, plumber, 117, Parnell Road. The office was only a few doors below where the accideHf happened. i
