WHERE REFORM AND LABOUR AGREE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The present Order-in-Council regulations show the similarity between Reform and Labour ideas in their disregard of Individualism. Conservatism has generally- been contrasted with Liberalism as a party representing The State v. The Individual as against a Party representing The Individual v. The State. Sometimes the Liberal watchword has been represented, as "the individual is to be trusted to look after his own interests." Seddon was fond of his saying, "Trust the people." Labour, as a party, hardly knows the individual exists. Their tendency to Communism causes them to disregard private rights when opposed to communal action.. Consequently we see Reform and Labour supporting a gross infraction of private rights such as the omnibus regulations by Order-in-Council, or the dairy regulations when Isitt pointed out the Socialistic tendency of the Reform Government. Approaching from entirely different standpoints both Labour and Reform are to be considered as dangerous enemies of individual rights, and those electors who value liberty and note the tendency of the present Government would do well to consider whether any material benefit will compensate them for the loss of our dearest possessions.—I am. etc, SEEKER.
