LECTURE ON ROADS.
''Modern British Roads" was the subject of a lecture that was delivered in the Town Hall concert .chamber last evening by Lieutenant-Colonel Guy Symonds, D.S.O. The Mayor, Mr. GeoJ Baildon. presided.
The lecturer, who had a thorough knowledge of the operations of the Ministry of Transport, gave details of the maintenance schemes which were employed on famous streets of London. Bitumen carpets, as a protecting surface to concrete, were explained and illustrated by lantern slides, and the exceptional qualities of bitumen for reading were strongly emphasised. EoadmaMng methods and the machinery employed on some of the best-known routes were also described.
