Y.W.C.A. APPEAL
SPORTS' QUEEN- CONTEST,
excitement was experienced in the Y.W.C.A. hall last evening when the ■ final results of the Inter-House Sports' queen contest were made public. Lady Gunson, chairman of the Girls' Division I Committee of the appeal, called out the names of the competing queens from the platform and the queens answered by giving the number of votes they had obtained. J.C.L.'s queen, '"Doreen," was greeted with ringing cheers when her total of votes was heard, and she was declared the winner of the contest. She was followed by the other houses in the following order: 1. —Queen Doreen (J.C.L's.) 345,403; 2.—Queen Flossie (Geo. Court's), 40,411; 3.—Queen Trixie (Milne and Choyce), 37,584; 4.— Queen Florence (Smith and Caughey's), 30.483; s.—Queen Sylvia- (Rendell's), 7470. Wholesale: "l.— Queen Edria (Grerr's), 29,197; 2.—Queen Edie (Maeky-Logan), 16.191; 3.— Queen Dulcie (Sargood"s), 11,245: 4.— Queen Nellie (Arch. Clark's), 10,800; 5. — Queen Marjorie (Ross and Glendining), 10.365; 6.—Queen Doreen 11. (Ambler's), 5930.
Each vote obtained represents Id., co that altogether the inter-house sporte queens and their supporters have succeeded in raising over £2350 for th* Girls' Appeal, a result which far exceeds all expectations and is a splendid effort on their part. The "wholesale" queent are specially to be congratulated on the big fight th?y put up, and the excellent results that they obtained, as they were working under difficulties.
The crowning of the victorious Queen Doreen will take place on June 23 in the Town Hall.
