ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last night. There were present: Messrs. J. E. Cowell (Mayor), W. N. Mclntosh, W. C. Coldicutt, H. Stoupe, J. E. Green, K. G. Speight, W. Kemp, H. Campling, and A. J. Hipwell.
Finance.—The district fund is in debit £6045. The three loans accounts are in credit £6457. £9283, and £1474 7/7. Accounts amounting to £1781 5/1 were passed for payment.
Public Health. —An inquiry was received from Dr. T. J. Hughes, Medical Officer of Health, as to whether the council has a tentative scheme in readiness in the event of the possibility of a recrudescence of influenza. If so, does it include a skeleton organisation, as provided for in Part 8 of the infections diseases regulations, such organisation to be on similar lines to those in use in previous occasions? In answer to the Mayor, the town clerk stated that the council had not done anything In the matter. He suggested that the local branch of the St. John Ambulance Association be asked to advise the council. It was decided to get this advice from the Health Department. Application Declined.—The council declined Mr. G. J. Mackay's application for permission to lay out a road through his property in Chamberlain Avenue, 50 feet wide. Casual Labour. —The casual labourers employed by the council are to be paid 2/ per hour, owing to the time lost by them through wet weather. Building Permits. —The town clerk reported that 23 permits for new buildings had been issued during the past fortnight. White New Zealand.—At the request of the White New Zealand League, at Pukekohe the council passed a resolution supporting Us objective in seeking legislation to restrict the emigration of Asiatics into the Dominion. The resolution will be sent to the Prime Minister, and the member for Manukau, Mr. W. J. Jordan, Is to be asked to support any legislation in this direction.
