A sculling match for the championship of Australia was rowed yesterday at Woodburn, on the Richmond River, by Alf Burns, the holder of the title, and Frank Scroope. Burns won by seven lengths. Scroope had nearly a stone advantage over his opponent. 'Tlie latter had been trained by Paddon. There was a large attendance. The weather was overcast with a slight breeze against the scullers. After a magnificent struggle over the first mile the race was only a one man affair. Scroope once held Burns in that part of the journey, but then he came to the end of his tether. Burns forged ahead and slowly established a lead. He was six lengths ahead when the two-mile post was reached. The first mile took 6m 10s and the second 7m ISs. From that point on Burns, who was easily the more finished sculler, was content to maintain his lead. Rowing steadily he won by seven lengths in 21m 12s.—(A. and N.Z.)
