BRIXTON ROAD SCHOOL.

« OPENED BY HON. R. A. WRIGHT. *• _____ i In opening the Brixton Road School on Saturday afternoon, the new Minister of Education (Hon R. A. Wright) was welcomed by Mr. E. H. Potter ( Mayor of Mount Eden) Mr. V. H. Potter,* M.P., expressed the hope that the Minister would soon open the new Mount Eden School which the Government was going to give the district in place of the present obsolete structure. (Laughter.) If the Minister granted £200 towards putting the school grounds in order, the headmaster would be able to say to the children: "Now you must do no wrong, as you owe all this to Wright!" (Laughter.) Mr. H. G. R. Mason. M.P., Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. J. Carrie, chairman of the Edendale School Committee, Hon. George Fowlds, and Mr. P. J. Hook, headmaster of the school, also spoke. After reviewing all the facts in connection with the establishment of the school (as published in Saturday's edition), the Minister opened the front door with a silver key, presented by the contractor, Mr. C. W. Ravenhall. A vote of thanks to the Minister was passed on the motion of the Rev. 11. B. Wiugfield, vicar of St. Alban's. A choir of school children sang a verse of "Land of Hope and Glory," and led the singing of the National Anthem. Mothers of the children served afternoon tea in one of the classrooms.
