FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS.

MEMORIAL TECHNICAL QOLLEGE. " ERECTION OF ANOTHER STOREY. y For some years past the need of additional accommodation at the Seddon Memorial Technical College in Wellesiey Street East has been apparent; and the Education Department has now decided to erect another storey to cope with the increased roll number. The tender of Mr. H. C. Curlett of £6441 has been accepted. The work is to be completed by the beginning of the 1927 school year.

A grant of £8000 was made by Cabinet about two years ago, but, owingto differences of opinion between the Department and the board of managers there was a great deal of delay in the calling of tenders. For some time past the board has been paying £2(10 a year rental for some classrooms in the old Grammar School, and this has relieved the congestion to some extent. The board has in hand the sum of £7000 for an, assembly hall, which is the next need. The total cost is estimated at £12,000, and it is hoped to obtain not only subsidies on the Binns and Hindley bequests, but also grants sufficient to enable the work to be undertaken.
